In order to improve my pronunciation and fluency in the Japanese language, I will set general goals and specific activities to meet those goals.
Goals:
Speed - to increase the speed with which I speak and understand the language
Pronunciation - to sound more fluent and natural
Intonation - to correctly speak sentence intonation and word pitch
Activities
- Go to the language table at least once a month provided that it does not conflict with my other academic requirements
- Go to しばたせんせい's office hours at least once a month to practice and correct speaking
- Do at least 1 anime shadowing exercise each week
- Watch at least 1 anime episode and practice speaking by shadowing two characters' dialogues throughout the episode
- Listen to Japanese versions of songs that I like and practice singing along every day

Why I took Japanese
Hello everyone! My name is Ashley Berland, and I am from Stanford, CT. I decided to take Japanese as my language at Princeton University for several reasons. 一, I tried to take Spanish in middle school and high school, but did not feel that I learned or enjoyed it enough to continue learning the language. 二, I have taken martial arts for twelve years, and
as a result, have fallen in love with the culture. 三, I am looking into a career in potentially
in business and this language would be incredibly helpful. I am most excited about learning
how to read and write in Japanese. I found trying to remember the different terms and
pronouciations to be the most difficult. I am definitely looking forward to learning Japanese!
